About

The National Emergency Airway Registry for Children (NEAR4KIDS) is a multi-center, prospective registry for advanced airway management in Pediatric ICUs. The primary goal of the project is to improve advanced airway management practice for critically-ill children.


The project currently has over twenty participating centers in the North America.

It is based at the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia , and the database is maintained with the support of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, in Boston, Massachusetts.


This project is developed with the support of Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) Network  , and NEAR  team (PI: Ron M Walls, MD) and the Organizational Dynamics team  at University of Pennsylvania (Larry Starr, PhD).


The principal investigator for this project is Vinay Nadkarni, MD, and the co-principal investigator is Akira Nishisaki, MD.
